Slow Jams and R&B - A Difference?

Attention class, let me educate you.

I've come across quiet a few mixes that are titled Slow Jams and R&B but only feature R&B songs. Where the Slow Jams at???

From that, it has come to my attention that majority do not know the difference in the sound, I mean the title itself differentiates the two as something separate. So why am I hearing one and not the other?

I took it upon myself to take a poll on instagram and twitter, just to get an overview from my followers even though this aint the whole population and what not, but it is interesting to see the results.

And the results came in as 70, 30

So here's to the 30%, Slow Jams as I believe is similar to R&B and what I hear the difference to be is that it is infused with soul features. That includes, ballads, slowed down tempos and songs that are heavily based on love/emotional lyrical content. Also when you hear slow jams I automatically think songs in the 90s & 00s, because thats where it surfaced from a lot of artists such as: Ginuwine - Pony, Usher - Nice & Slow, LLCoolJ - Doin it Well, Jodeci - Freak n you, H-Town - Knockin Da boots, Aaliyah - One in a million, Ashanti - Rain On Me, Keyshia Cole - Love, Destiny Child - Cater 2 U, J-Holiday - Bed, Ciara - Promise etc. Too that it has trickled down to what we hear in Artists of today, for example (Make Notes 📝🔥)

Not quiet the same as what you would hear from R&B songs, even though they may be similar in ways of lyrical content. The upbeat tempo which makes the mood a little more uplifting

Honestly keep a look out for my upcoming playlist on spotify cause boyyy I can go on with these lists but thats my intake of slow jams and R&B. Ngl its easier to differentiate Slow Jams and R&B back in the day, however in this time there is a lot of crossover which I found when putting the little lists together.
